I am trained in Classical Hatha Yoga. Hatha Yoga practices purify and balance the bodily systems & energies systematically. “Ha” refers to the sun & the solar energy, “Tha” to the moon & lunar energy in the body. We often refer to them as “masculine” and “feminine” aspects or our being. The practices of classical Hatha Yoga encompass Asana (postures), Pranayama (breathing techniques) and Relaxation / Meditation. All practices help us to gradually develop control over the senses, then over the breath and eventually over the mind. In order to master our thoughts we need to develop self-awareness in all aspects of life. My Hatha yoga class will focus on the breath in each posture & direct the awareness systematically.
The golden sequence of Classical Hatha yoga is Surya Namaskara, sun salutations. In itself this sequence is balanced; front and back body, both sides of the body. It can be performed dynamically for physical exercise, heat & purification or more slowly to develop awareness & depth. The Surya Mantras help to bypass the busy mind & take us deeper into the practice. Sun salutations with Mantra are a moving meditation.
